Elwin is a remarkably astute and insightful woman. She has an incredible ability to get you to talk about your inner most thoughts without you feeling confronted or uncomfortable. I have seen Elwin help young people find their ways in the world in quite unexpected directions but which turn out to suit them perfectly. It was with this background knowledge that I arranged for Elwin to talk to my son when he was at the end of year 9. It wasn’t that he was struggling or was particularly worried about his future. I just wanted to give him the opportunity to talk to Elwin to give him a perspective on his interests and options from someone other than his family.

When I picked him up after his session with Elwin I was amazed by the obvious intensity of their discussion. He does not usually open up so much with people he doesn’t know well but he had with Elwin. I felt that it was a critical meeting as he was treated as an intelligent, independent person in his own right – a rare experience for 14 – 15 year olds. The session clarified his main areas of interest and confirmed the appropriateness of many of his subject choices. Other choices were questioned. Elwin drew up a Mindmap of the session which I have often looked at when my son has been making choices. It has been very helpful over the years.
Looking back now as my son is about to start university, it was a remarkably perceptive analysis of him. Subjects which she questioned as being of relevance he dropped over the years and those that he loved he continued with and excelled in.

I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone to arrange for Elwin to speak to their son or daughter – not so that she can chose their VCE subjects and ensure entry into their or their parents’ preferred university course but so that their child has an opportunity to identify or clarify what their passions are – both what they love and what they hate. They may not think it changes their world but you as a parent will see your child in a different light and they will come out of their session with Elwin feeling stronger and more certain about who they are and who they might become.

I have no hesitation in recommending Elwin Hall as a person who understands young people, and knows how to reach them.

My daughter went through a difficult time from around age 14, being withdrawn and anxious, and refusing to attend school, amongst other problems. I had tried all manner of things to improve the situation, without any success, until I found Elwin.

My daughter’s session with Elwin seemed to serve as a catalyst to our situation, allowing my daughter and I to then start communicating openly and effectively. I was able to understand her better, and she could see that I was trying to do this. I remember at the time that my daughter commented that Elwin was quite different to other practitioners she had seen, and it was obvious that Elwin had managed to “get through” to my daughter which no one else had been able to do.

It took my daughter some time to come to terms with her own “differences” but she eventually discovered Distance Education at 18 and went back to study, successfully completing her VCE in 2009. She is studying further, having discovered a passion for history and politics.

I believe Elwin has a special understanding of young people and the pressures they find themselves facing in todays world. I would recommend her services without hesitation, and I wish her well in all her endeavours.

Yours faithfully,

Donna

Executive PA, early 30s
My life and career don’t always go as I have planned or dreamed. Often they take me in other directions – not always good, but not always bad. Elwin encourages me to draw on these experiences to find out more about myself and to forge ahead and create the life and career I want. Elwin’s life coaching skills are honed from life itself. She knows what she’s talking about and, don’t be fooled, her advice is often raw and confronting, but always constructive and encouraging. Elwin is all about being true to yourself and having the courage to explore.

Marketing/Product Manager, early 30s
Elwin has an innate ability to quickly sum people up and hone in on their personal gifts and, if required, put them in touch with other professionals. She is always mindful of the networks she uses to ensure professional integrity for both herself, the client and others. Elwin is a conduit, as well as a mentor and coach. Elwin is often ahead of her time in thinking outside the square, challenging the status quo and providing future direction. She helps people develop to their full potential. Elwin has encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone. I recently started Latin dancing and am now following my newfound passion by going on a cultural exchange program to Cuba where I will learn about the roots of salsa. If you know it’s right for you, go for it!

My life and career aspirations were changed completely when I decided to move from Chile to Australia to complete further studies at university and achieve some of my personal goals. Suddenly I was in a completely different environment where everything appeared to be harder and more complicated.

Then I was introduced to Elwin. Elwin’s guidance was crucial for me in the process of adapting to these challenges and to redraw my career path. Over many weekly meetings we discovered so many new things about my personality in particular my strengths and weaknesses.

Elwin helped me to clarify these and decide which areas to focus on for the development of my career prospects.
Today I have achieved many of the goals. Elwin’s experience, knowledge and charisma makes her the best mentor anyone
from overseas could want to have to help in their assimilation process and for their career development.

Thank you so much Elwin.

When I was approximately 15 years young I told my careers councillor that I didn’t know what I wanted to do in life. I knew what my passions were yet she didn’t even begin to ask the right questions. She pointed me in the direction of office work and finance yet I hated maths. I felt pressured from parents and school to do what they wanted me to do.

I wanted people to listen to what I believed I could achieve. No one did. It took me eight years and over 17 countries later to ask the questions once again. I needed guidance and needed people to listen. I needed a person to help me find my path. Elwin is not a careers councillor, she offers so much more than that. She has a unique way of connecting with people of all ages. She asks the tough questions, challenges you to realise your potential and
actually listens to what you say.”

IT Recruitment, late 20s
Elwin was very professional and well prepared. She oozes energy and charisma and was a joy to be involved with. Her energy rubs off on you and makes you feel better about yourself, therefore giving you the confidence to actually look deep within and see the real you. The MBTI experience was very clear and concise. I know that I will be successful in the future. I have always known it. However, sometimes people like myself need a little push. We need to have a good hard look at ourselves. Elwin has helped me find the inner me. I have changed my career and am moving forward
